Introductions The overall objective of the establishment of Taman Negara is to preserve the flora and fauna within the area through various activities including research, education, legislation, recreation and ecotourism. The increase in the number of visitors to Kuala Tahan over the years has prompted the Department to make Sungai Relau as the alternative entry point to Taman Negara. Its hoped that this will reduce the visitors impact on Kuala Tahan apart from exposing other parts of Taman Negara to visitors. Sungai Relau is Located on the western side of Taman Negara. Its is one of the entry points to Taman Negara, apart from Kuala Tahan of the Southern Side, Kuala Koh in Kelantan dan Tanjong Mentong in Terengganu. Sungai Relau is approximately 7 km from small town of Merapoh, which is at the halfway point along the main road from the Kuala Lumpur to Kota Bharu, Kelantan. The nearest towns are Gua Musang (30 km) and Kuala Lipis (100 km). Its also can be accessed by train service from Kuala Lumpur – Gemas—Tumpat and Johor Bharu-Tumpat ( Singapore express). This park is accessible to the publis since August 1993. Just like other parts of Taman Negara, Sungai Relau is also noted for its diverse biological resource. Unlike Kuala Tahan, Sungai Relau still maintains its wildness and natural habitats by restricting the development of infrastructure This entrance is the main embarkation point for mountain climbers to Gunung Tahan due to its shorter trail to peak (2 days) compared to 5 days from Kuala Tahan. There is also a 14-km (4wd) jeep trail linking Sungai Relau to Kuala Juram where the climb to Gunung Tahan begins.
