bukit guling gendang

Bukit Guling Gendang is a steep, ardous ascent that is best climbed early morning in the cool of the day. It is about an hour's climb, with the final section across fairly rocky terrain.

Towards the summit the vegetation is stunted as it grows on a peat soil. Plants of the mountains forest appear, such as the conifer ( Dacrydium beccarii ) and a carnivorous pitcher plant ( Nepenthes sanguinea ) climbing in the undergrowth. Both occur here at an altitude more than 400 metres ( 1'300 feet ) lower than they do on Gunung Tahan.

From the trig point at the summit, to the north and northwest it may be possible to see Gunung Tahan and the adjoining peaks above Gua Siput and Gua Tumpat. In the distance, the highest limestone outcrop in Peninsular Malaysia, Gua Peningat- 713 metres ( 2'340 feet )- can be seen.
