| Canopy Walkway is the world's longest- 530 metres,
strung up to 40 metres high above the forest floor. It was built by the
the staff of the Wildlife & National Parks Department.
The construction of the first phase of the canopy walkway which span across 231 metres was completed in 1993 and the second phase which is 200 metres long was constructed in 1995. This canopy walkway is consists of 9 bridges and 10 platforms. For safety, every inch of it is checked every morning. The ropes have a minimum snapping strength of 5 tons and the steel cables more than 10 tons. The trees are protected with wooden spacers fitted between the bark and the cables and ropes; NO NAILS have been driven into the trees. Every measure has been taken to protect the health of the trees-and the visitors. Currently (2007), major renovations have been done to the canopy walkway structure. Some information said that they will extend the length up to 800 metres! The walkway was originally developed for research purposes but now mainly the domain of inquisitive tourist keen for a slice of adventure and the opportunity to see the rainforest from a unique perspective. The Canopy Walkway is open daily from 10.00am to 02.45pm Saturday to Thursday and 09.00am to 12.00pm on Friday. However during windy heavy raining the canopy walkway will be closed ON THE SPOT, for safety reasons. The entrance rate is RM5.00 per adult and RM3.00 per children. Canned and bottled drinks also sell at the counter. To get here is easy either by jungle trekking through lowland dipterocarp forest for less than 1.5 hour or 5 minutes if you hire a boat from Kuala Tahan HQ.
